Kim Gan went to University of Sto. Tomas’ College of Fine Arts, Majoring in Interior Design. She moved then to Tokyo, Japan to pursue further practical education in arts and fashion, guided by her keen appreciation for Japan’s culture and aesthetics.
After 15 years she moved back to Manila and opened “GAKUYA”, (which means a dressing room for Geishas), located at the Corinthian Gardens Clubhouse in 2009. The atelier has since catered to fashionable clients.
She broke into the international scene when a gown she designed was featured in 2011 Vogue Italia. In 2012, her work was photographed for numerous editorials featuring Best Actress awardee, Alice Dixson, the talented Alessandra de Rossi, Miss Universe USA Olivia Culpo, America’s Next Top Model’s Sophie Sumner, Dominique Reighard and Brittany Kline, Miss Philippines Mary Jean Lastimosa, Miss International 2013 Bea Rose Santiago and recently she dressed up the newly crowned Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach and teen sensation and leading star of the hit show On the Wings of Love, Nadine Lustre. Her creations were featured as well at various high profile campaigns for Flawless Skincare Cosmetics and RCBC.
She considers it a singular achievement to have earned notice of the people behind the Canada-Philippine Fashion Week in 2013 and again in June 2014.
Kim Gan’s style and aesthetics is inspired by women of quiet strength and the subtle power of feminine beauty.
Aside from dressing Manila’s high profile personalities & celebrities, she is currently working on a capsule collection to be showcased in Yokohama, Japan for the Sakura Collection, an international cultural exchange and exhibition. She is also at the process of putting her latest collection inspired by womens beauty, elegance and delicateness at the springtime of their lives, showcasing more of her artistry.
